Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about private, in-home sober companionship — before you pick up the phone.
A sober companion is a credentialed, recovery-experienced professional who works with you one-on-one inside your own life — your home, sober living, hotel, or wherever you need support. Unlike a residential treatment center, there are no shared rooms, group schedules, or institutional settings. You get individualized attention all day, every day, in the privacy of your own environment. At Home Recovery brings the clinical expertise to you, rather than uprooting your life to go somewhere else.
Our clients are typically adults who want a private, discreet path to sobriety — whether they're stepping down from a residential program, managing a relapse, or seeking support without entering a formal facility. We also work with executives, high-profile individuals, and anyone for whom confidentiality and flexibility are non-negotiable. Families navigating a loved one's early recovery reach out regularly too, and we facilitate professional interventions for those situations.
Every plan is built around the individual, so no two days look exactly alike. In general, your companion provides hands-on help with day-to-day tasks — cooking, cleaning, grocery runs, and errands — alongside scheduling and coordinating all your appointments. They transport you to therapy, support groups, and medical visits, reinforce healthy routines, work with you on identifying and coping with triggers, and simply serve as a steady, present support through vulnerable moments. Evenings and overnight stays can be arranged as needed.
We function as your single point of contact for every aspect of treatment and recovery. One team handles companions, medical coordination, scheduling, referrals, and logistics — so you are never juggling multiple providers or repeating your story. We actively coordinate between physicians, therapists, sober companions, and external programs, keeping everything aligned under one integrated plan that evolves as you progress.
Yes. We coordinate and oversee physician-supervised medical detox, allowing clients to move through this critical transition safely and comfortably — either at home or in a controlled private environment. Our physician partners evaluate each client's substance history, physical health, and risk factors before designing a personalized detox protocol. Medications are used strategically to reduce withdrawal severity and minimize cravings, with continuous monitoring throughout.
Yes — 24/7 MD consultations are a core part of what we offer. Our network of board-certified physicians specializing in addiction medicine is available at any hour for assessments, medication management, withdrawal monitoring, and emergency consultation. This level of medical oversight brings the quality of a residential program into your home without the disruption or loss of privacy that a facility stay involves.
Yes. We facilitate professionally guided, collaborative interventions designed to break through denial and open a genuine path to treatment. Our approach is compassionate and non-confrontational — we work with family members in advance, educating them on addiction, coaching them on language and tone, and coordinating with licensed therapists and addiction specialists. A critical part of our process is having a treatment plan in place and ready to implement the moment your loved one says yes, so momentum is never lost.
We integrate a range of evidence-based holistic practices into each client's recovery plan: yoga and mindful movement, breathwork and meditation, nutrition counseling and meal support, personal fitness training, acupuncture, and massage therapy. These are not optional extras — they are deliberate, clinically informed components of recovery led by credentialed, recovery-informed practitioners. They reduce anxiety, improve sleep, build physical resilience, and provide healthy outlets that replace the role substances once played.
Yes, safe and discreet transportation is a standard part of our companion services. We handle scheduling, routing, and accompaniment — ensuring you arrive to therapy sessions, support group meetings, medical appointments, and legal obligations on time and in the right headspace. Our companions use the drive intentionally: the ride to a session is time to prepare; the ride home is a chance to decompress. Everything is handled with complete discretion.
Yes to both. For clients navigating DUIs, possession charges, custody matters, or professional licensing concerns, we connect them with attorneys who specialize in addiction-related legal matters and coordinate compliance with court requirements. For public figures and executives, we also provide access to a network of top PR professionals for crisis communication, reputation management, and proactive narrative strategy — always coordinated with clinical care so that no public strategy ever undermines the recovery process.
Yes — every companion at At Home Recovery is personally in long-term recovery. They don't understand addiction from a textbook; they've lived it, navigated it, and built meaningful lives on the other side. That authenticity is the foundation of every client relationship and the reason it works in a way that clinical training alone cannot replicate.
Our team holds credentials including UCLA substance abuse counseling certification, CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) licensing, CCAPP certification, NCMA certification, and ISSA personal training certification, among others. Credentials vary by team member — full bios and credentials are listed on our Our Team page. All companions are supported by our clinical oversight structure.
Matching is something we take seriously. When you reach out, we have a confidential conversation about your situation, goals, personality, and specific needs. We consider gender preference, lifestyle, recovery background, scheduling, and any particular sensitivities. The goal is a genuine human connection — not just an available placement. A good match is the foundation of everything that follows.
In many cases we can have a companion in place within 24–48 hours of your first contact, sometimes sooner. We understand the need for support often arises urgently, and we respond accordingly. Call us directly at (424) 395-6886 for time-sensitive inquiries.
No. We serve clients nationwide and have accompanied clients internationally as well. Our team is available to travel for airport escorts, cross-country relocations, international trips, and extended stays in any city. We are based in Los Angeles but our work follows our clients wherever they need us.
Duration varies widely by client and need. Some clients need intensive full-time support for the first 30–90 days of early recovery. Others benefit from part-time support during specific hours, high-risk situations, or major life transitions. Engagements are fully flexible in structure and length — we don't impose rigid timelines, and the plan evolves as you do.
Yes. We offer round-the-clock availability including overnight stays for clients who need continuous support during the most vulnerable phase of early recovery. Our team is reachable at any hour. Recovery doesn't follow a 9-to-5 schedule, and neither do we.
Confidentiality is foundational to everything we do. We never share client information with anyone outside your approved care team. Our companions are held to strict confidentiality standards, and consultations are completely private from the very first call. For clients with professional or public profiles, we also offer access to PR professionals who manage any public-facing dimensions of recovery with the same commitment to discretion.
Only the people you choose to tell. Our companions work discreetly and blend naturally into your environment and daily context. Whether you're at home, traveling, or attending events, your companion's presence can be as visible or as private as you prefer. Many of our clients have professional or public reputations to protect, and we design every engagement with that in mind.
Most standard health insurance plans do not cover private sober companion services. Some higher-tier or supplemental plans may offer partial reimbursement for certain clinical components. We recommend checking with your insurance provider directly. We are happy to provide documentation to support any reimbursement claim you file.
Pricing depends on the level of support, the hours and coverage needed, and whether travel is involved. We offer flexible arrangements ranging from part-time daily support to full 24/7 companion care, plus add-on services like holistic therapies, transportation, medical oversight, and more. We are transparent about costs from the first conversation — no surprise fees. Contact us directly for a personalized quote.
